in trials all across NE & SE. Eastern shipper type
with outstanding eating quality, consistently firm
orange flesh and lightly sutured rind with medium
netting. Slightly earlier and somewhat larger melon
than Athena, with good shipping and holding
ability. Resistant PM1·2, FW0-2.
2460 Samson F1 80-85 days. Classic Eastern type
with very large fruit. Oregon trial averaged
8"x 7" fruit weighing 8-10 lb. More
ideal locations using intensive cultivation practice
reported an avg range of 13-17 lb. Distinct greentinted
sutures and heavy, ropey tan netting. Best
harvested when rind has turned yellow but suture
is still green. Dense foliage provides good fruit
protection. Medium orange flesh is flavorful and
slightly musky. Earliness and fruit set are very good
for such a large melon. Tolerant PM2, WMV. Fresh

reaching 15 lb under intensive cultivation. A very
large Eastern Shipper (Athena) type, excellent
for roadside and mid-range shipping applications,
with good holding ability. 12% Brix, lightly sutured,

2444 Primo F1 79 days. Early, large, dark orange
flesh. Almost sutureless fruit are heavily netted,
with a small, dry seed cavity. The colorful flesh is
very thick, sweet and flavorful. Fruits average 5-7
lbs. each, 7" x 7.5". Tolerant PM1·2, Sul. Fresh Mkt,
2478 Yuma Grande F1 88 days. 9" x 7"; 7-8 lb. Large
oval Western Shipper. Monoecious type, best for
spring and fall harvests when cool conditions limit
fruit size, rather than main season. Thick firm
deep orange flesh and very compact seed cavity.
Heavy netting with no sutures. Very good flavor.

2385 Dove F1 70 days. Early & sweet. Avg Brix reported
at 15.5%, near the top for melons. Soft, creamy
flesh is white but may show some green near rind at
early picking, or rose tinted at center at later picking.
Netting is a delicate tracery over green to orange
rind. Specialty markets will ask for more.
Orange Flesh Honeydew
2504 Temptation #1 F1 85-90 days. 6.5" round melons
with smooth creamy rind and sweet orange flesh
and a green band near rind. Avg wt 4.5 lbs. Excellent
eating quality, high novelty appeal for cut
melon mkts. Resistant FW2.
2480 Citrino F1 Mid Season orange fleshed Honeydew.
Large round fruit with smooth creamy white
rind. Flesh is dense and firm with moderately
closed cavity, high brix and delicious flavor undertones.
